Theatre department holding auditions for one-act plays

By Joy Pinkney / Staff writer

The Pitt Greensburg Theatre Company will be hosting auditions for four one-act plays that will be performed this fall. Auditions will be held early next week in the Ferguson Theater on Sept. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. It is not necessary to attend both dates, but students are welcome to do so. The auditions will contain a script reading as well as some improvisation. No experience is necessary.

The four one-acts include “Lifeline,” which will be directed by Elaine Galinskie, “Hard Candy” which will be co-directed by Galinskie and Ashley King. The other two one-acts — “4:48 Psychosis” and “Actor’s Nightmare” — will be directed by Professor Stephen Schrum.

The plays will be King and Galinskie’s senior Capstone projects required to graduate in the Interdisciplinary Arts Major.

In the end, Ashley and I chose two one-acts ‘Life Line’ and ‘Hard Candy.’ We chose both of them because they were funny and they also seemed to be the most challenging,” Galinskie said.

Students get "Red Eye"

By Mike McDermit / Staff writer

Whether it’s writing, acting, directing, or simply watching, UPG’s first annual Red Eye project holds something for everyone interested in theater.

Red Eye is a theater project based on the idea of speed. Students who were intrigued by the thought of quick theater were giving there roles Tuesday night. After writing and rehearsing their skits, they’ll perform tonight (Thursday) in Ferguson Theater.
