Baseball, softball teams to have on-campus home fields

After two years without a home-field advantage, the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team will play games on campus next season. And they won’t be alone.

Next year, Bobcats baseball will return to its field on campus and the softball team will have its first on-campus field in school history.

Hockey team makes a run for the playoffs

In their second season, the Pitt-Greensburg ice hockey club is poised to make a run at the championship.

With only three games left before the playoffs, the Bobcats are 12-6-1, and head coach Tim Baldwin expects his players to head into the playoffs with the right mindset.

“The team has played great all year,” Baldwin said. “Now we just need to enter the playoffs with a strong want for the championship and the will to win.”

The Bobcats scored their second victory and first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season this past Saturday as they defeated D’Youville College on a rainy day at Ridilla Field.

Ice hockey team kicks off season with a high-scoring win

The Pitt-Greensburg ice hockey club kicked off its second season with a home victory against Xavier University last Saturday night. Head coach Tim Baldwin is looking to take the success from their inaugural season last year and have an even better season this year.

“With a strong, motivated and hard-working team, we are looking to improve our standings and move up in the division rankings,” Baldwin said.

The Bobcats looked strong Saturday night, as the goals were pouring in during their 11-7 victory. The team is returning seven players from last year and welcoming nine new players.

Men’s soccer

Stuffed: Goalkeeper Chris Stangl makes a nice save.Stuffed: Goalkeeper Chris Stangl makes a nice save.The Bobcats dropped to 1-6-1 on the season after a home loss to Point Park University. In a game that saw Pitt-Greensburg outshoot its opponent, freshmen Sam Kuhn led the team with five shots, including one that just missed, hitting the crossbar 21 minutes into the game. Point Park’s goalie kept the game at 2-0 with three sliding saves, all on Bobcat breakaways.

With one conference game in the books (a 1-1 tie with Hilbert College), the Bobcats look to continue to keep the shots coming as they resume the AMCC schedule. The Bobcats’ second conference game of the season will be Saturday, Sept. 26, when they will host D’Youville College at 3 p.m. on Ridilla field in their AMCC home opener.

Here’s a look at how the campus teams have opened their seasons. Though none of the teams are off to a good start, the good news is that conference action has yet to begin, and only their conference record determine if they make playoffs.
